What is a Fingerboard?

A fingerboard is a miniature version of a skateboard that is controlled with your fingers instead of your feet. Just like a full-sized skateboard, it consists of a small deck, trucks, wheels, and accessories such as its own griptape.

To use a fingerboard, place two fingers on the deck and move them to perform tricks. You can move your fingers like legs while skating to try different tricks, including ollies, kickflips, heelflips, 50-50 grinds, nosegrinds, and many more. The possibilities are nearly endless and depend on your skills and creativity.

Sizes and Materials of Fingerboards

Fingerboard decks come in various sizes and shapes, similar to regular skateboards. The standard size for fingerboards is typically between 96mm and 100mm in length. There are inexpensive plastic fingerboard decks, but also high-quality ones made of multiple layers of wood, just like large skateboards.

Additionally, in our range, you will find small obstacles specially designed for fingerboards. With them, you can create your own miniature skatepark at home.

Fingerboards for Coordination Development and Stress Relief

Besides pure fun, fingerboarding offers additional benefits, such as:

  • Coordination development: Performing tricks with your fingers helps improve fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
  • Stress relief: Like many hobbies, fingerboarding can be a relaxing and stress-relieving activity.
  • Creativity and innovation: Fingerboarding allows you to be creative and develop your own tricks and combinations.

The History of Fingerboarding

Fingerboarding originated in the 1980s as a type of "skateboarding for the desk." Initially, it was used by skateboarders to practice tricks and moves when they couldn't be on their boards. These early fingerboards were often homemade and not as refined as today's models.

The true popularization of fingerboarding began in the 1990s when the company Tech Deck released its first fingerboards. These miniature skateboards were produced at a scale of 1:64 and featured movable parts like trucks and wheels, allowing for the replication of real skateboard tricks.

In the early 2000s, the fingerboard community grew significantly. Enthusiasts began designing their own boards and accessories, and specialized fingerboard brands like Blackriver and Flatface emerged. These brands offered high-quality fingerboards, ramps, and other accessories, making fingerboarding even more realistic and diverse.

As fingerboarding's popularity increased, the first official competitions and events were organized. The first Fingerboard World Championships took place in the early 2000s, providing a platform for fingerboarders from around the world to showcase their skills and compete.

Today, there are numerous brands and models producing high-quality fingerboards, and the community of fingerboarders continues to grow.

FAQ: Fingerboards

Is there a fingerboard community and fingerboard competitions?

There is a vibrant fingerboard scene that also hosts fingerboard competitions. In these contests, fingerboard pros compete directly against each other, similar to skateboard contests. There are also different categories such as Best Trick, Freestyle, and Mini-Ramp.

Can you ride a fingerboard outdoors?

Yes, you can ride a fingerboard both indoors and outdoors, as long as you have a flat and clean surface to ride on. Fingerboards work well on smooth surfaces like tables, benches, and specialized fingerboard parks.

Can fingerboard tricks be transferred to regular skateboards?

Yes, many fingerboard tricks are similar to those on regular skateboards and can be performed in a similar way. Practicing fingerboard tricks can improve your skills on a skateboard and vice versa.

Are there special fingerboard parks?

Almost every large obstacle also exists in miniature form. So, you can easily set up your own park, unlike real skateparks. We also offer a selection of high-quality miniature ramps and other items.
